For my graduation project, I came up with a concept that combined the emotional, psychological and biological aspects of human beings. In my project, I focused on the internal emotions of conflict and struggle and how these emotions affect a person externally. Usually when a person is sad, happy, or frustrated it’ll show on his or her facial expressions (it’s called microexpressions).. I was inspired to illustrate people’s feelings and mindset that was caused by the state of the world we live in. The recession, wars, natural disasters and diseases have left their marks on everyone (whether directly or indirectly).
I represented those emotions using abstract figures and portraits made up from symbols and patterns that I have abstracted from board games (Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, Snakes and Ladders etc..). Board games represent a struggle or conflict between different forces/powers which mirrors the inner struggles and insecurities that we as human beings experience.
Wow - this is very unique - and interesting!
ReplyDeleteMade me think of an episode last month:
I had just ended a realtionship. It was/is a tough period. My best friend looked at me one day, and said: "I think it will take a while, before I see that true Sheila-smile again. You don't smile with your eyes as usual."
A face really do reflect emotions..
Cool drawings :o)
Regards from Sheila
